A 3:08 pm fire on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 damaged a bayfront Wildwood Crest home. The two story frame building was damaged when a worker's torch ignited the rear wall.

Although a brisk wind was blowing off the bay, an early morning rain had dampened the cedar shake shingles enough to prevent a more rapid exterior extension.

A 911 call from a cell phone user was routed to the City of Wildwood, which first dispatched its own Engine 338 and Amb. 390, and then relayed the call to Wildwood Crest dispatch.

E338 arrived and went in service with an 1-3/4" handline to the rear of the building where the first floor ceiling-level fire was moving into the rear exterior wall and into the second floor kitchen.

Wildwood Crest E438 arrived and advanced a 1-3/4" hoseline to the second floor.  Crews from T460, E437 and SS475 placed ground ladders, vented the building and established a water supply to E338 and E438 from a hydrant across the street.

The worker was treated for a minor hand burn by Wildwood Crest Rescue's Ambulance 453.  Wildwood Engine 337 covered the Wildwood Crest firehouse and responded to a fire alarm call at a Wildwood Crest apartment complex.  Crest E437 also responded from the Lake Rd. fire to the second incident which prove to be a false alarm.
